August 11 - September 20 THE VILLAGE ART GALLERY - Award winning watercolor artist, Helen Burkett, will have a solo exbit at The Village Art Gallery beginning in August.   The main theme of her current work is an exploration in transparent watercolor of sunlight and shadow and the rhythm that evolves from the abstract design they create.  Her paintings can be found in many collections throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.  Originally from Arlington, Virginia, Helen Burkett moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1974, where she maintains her studio.  Stop by our gallery Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.   Throughout the year, The Village Art Gallery will showcase a variety of talented artists, we hope you will join us often.

DESIGN - Environments for Aging is the 14th edition in a series of senior care design competitions cosponsored by Long-Term Living magazine, the Society for the Advancement of Gerontological Environments and The Center for Health Design. The rennovation and expansion of Pines Village is one of only two independent living communities featured and was included in the Honorable Mentions and Obstacles & Solutions Sections.   The publication showcases the latest concepts in elder-friendly design and they tell how designers, facility owners and government regulators collaborated to realize them.   The idea behind the DESIGN/EFA competition is not simply to showcase the elite; it is to open up the work of senior care design for all to see, evaluate and learn from.

Pines Village Retirement Communities, PVRC, is privileged to serve veterans of the "Greatest Generation."  October 4-8, 2007, PVRC will take veterans to Washington D.C. on a Tour of Duty.  This is an all-expense-paid trip and volunteers are needed to support fundraising events.

In honor of National Americans Month, Tom Casalini will speak at Strongbow Inn

on May 11, 2007.  Casalini discovered remarkable depth of heroism as he

traveled across the country photographing recipients of the Medal of Honor.

1-24-07 PINES VILLAGE AND VALPARAISO PARKS DEPARTMENT PARTNER TO SERVE OLDER ADULTS

Pines Village Retirement Communities (PVRC) and the Valparaiso Parks and Recreation Department (VPRD) have formed a partnership to create an ElderStyle community. Together the organizations will assess services and establish an older adult referral network of community choices to live well.  PVRC will manage the programs and events, nutrition site, and community room rentals at the Banta Activity Center.  VPRD will develop public parks at Pines Village and Meridian Woods.
