To commence the holiday season NW Indiana Rusty Strings will be holding a holiday concert on Sunday, December 8, 2 pm at Valparaiso Nazarene Church, this event is hosted by Pines Village Retirement Communities, and the community is welcome to attend this free holiday concert.

Retired Duneland School Corporation Director of Music Education, Tom Schnable hasn’t left music or his orchestra students behind. A free-lance cellist for over 30 years, Tom has opened a new door for former string orchestra players to pull out their bows and play music once again.

Using social media, a callout to string players began to form an amateur string orchestra that would rehearse weekly with the end goal of the pleasure of playing once again and performing at community venues. Essential to the success of the group, was finding a location to rehearse and that is where Pines Village stepped in. A perfect fit to hold the weekly rehearsals and the added benefit for Pines Village residents to enjoy weekly orchestra music.

With more than 40 string players in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, the rehearsals began in fall. As the holiday season rapidly approaches, the orchestra is gearing up to perform a concert at Valparaiso Nazarene Church to ring in the holiday season.
