Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc., announces the 2021-2022 recipients of the Margaret M. Rivers and Anne Lauterbach scholarship awards. The scholarship program was created to foster employee longevity and encourage employees to pursue their higher education goals. Through the generosity of our residents, their families, the Board of Directors, and staff, over $315,000 in scholarships has been awarded to Pines Village employees since 1996.
The Margaret M. Rivers Fund - created in honor of Midge Rivers, founding director and CEO of Pines Village Retirement Communities.
The Anne Lauterbach Fund - created in honor of the late Anne Lauterbach, an educator, and a Pines Village resident.
Every year Pines Village holds a ceremony for graduates and scholarship recipients for residents, staff, and their families to celebrate their achievements.
This year, $28,000 was awarded to the following 11 student employees:
Iyanla Edwards received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Iyanla has been employed in Home Health for over two years and attends Indiana University Northwest, where she majors in Radiologic Sciences. Iyanla’s parents are Crystal McCafferty and Jeremell Allen.
Madelyn Evans received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Madelyn has been employed in Dining Services for two and a half years and attends Grand Valley State University, where she majors in Secondary Mathematics Education. Madelyn's parents are Brad and Stanna Evans.
Lilly Gillins received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Lilly has been employed in Dining Services for over four years and attends Florida College, where she majors in Business Administration. Lillian's parents are Kurt Gillins and Patty Black-Gillins.
Ashley Graegin received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Ashley has been employed in Dining Services for three and a half years and attends Colgate University, where she majors in English & Education. Her parents are Geoff and Julie Graegin.
Mary Johnson received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Mary has been employed in Dining Services for over four years and attends Ball State University, where she majors in Secondary Education for History & Sociology. Mary's parents are Carla and Jack Johnson.
Ankurpreet Kaur received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Ankur has been employed in Home Health for over two years and attends Purdue University Northwest, where she majors in Biology with a concentration in Health Sciences. Ankur’s parents are Sonia Kaur and Raj Singh.
Haley Marie Kennedy-Mathews received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Haley has been employed in Home Health for nearly two years and attends Purdue University Northwest, where she majors in Nursing. Haley's parents are Jackie and David Mathews.
Aleksa Matijevic received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Aleksa has been employed in Dining Services for nearly three years and attends Ball State University, where he majors in Sports Administration. Aleksa’s parents are Jelena and Tim Chenoski.
Marissa Riffett received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Marissa has been employed in Home Health for one year and attends Valparaiso University, where she majors in Nursing. Marissa’s mother is Dalia Zlaich.
Alissa Van Zuidam received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Alissa has been employed in Dining Services for five years and attends Purdue University, where she majors in Elementary Education. Her parents are Karyn and Mark Van Zuidam.
Eileen Rose Warner received a blended Anne Lauterbach andMargaret M. Rivers scholarship. Eileen has been employed in Dining Services for two years and attends Purdue University, where she majors in Psychology. Her parents are Timothy and Karen Warner.
