Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc. Awards $34,873 in Scholarships to Student Employees

Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc. announces the 2024-2025 recipients of the Margaret M. Rivers and Anne Lauterbach scholarship awards.  The scholarship program was created to foster longevity and encourage employees to pursue higher education goals. Through the generosity of our residents, their families, the Board of Directors, and staff, over $374,800 in scholarships has been awarded to Pines Village employees since 1996.

  • The Margaret M. Rivers Fund was created in honor of Midge Rivers, founding director and CEO of Pines Village Retirement Communities.

  • The Anne Lauterbach Fund was created in honor of the late Anne Lauterbach, an educator and Pines Village resident.

Every year, Pines Village holds a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of graduates, scholarship recipients, residents, staff, and their families.

This year, for the 2024-2025 school year, $ 34,873 was awarded to the following ten student employees:

Abrey Gudeman received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Abrey has been employed in Dining Services for close to 3 years. Abrey attends Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy. Her parents are Kerri and Glen Gudeman.

Madalyn Halsey received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship.  Madalyn has been employed in our Home Health department as an aide for a year.  She is attending Ivy Tech Community College majoring in Healthcare Specialist. Madalyn’s dad is Adam Halsey. 

Henry Harris received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship.  Henry has been employed in Dining Services as a server and a cook for close to 4 years.  Henry will be attending the University of St Francis in Ft Wayne.  His parents are Denielle and Brandon Harris.

Aleksa Matijevic received a Margaret M Rivers scholarship.  Aleksa has been employed in Dining Services for going on 6 years.  Aleksa is attending Ivy Tech working towards a career in Data Analytics. His parents are Jelena and Tim Chenoski.

Anna Petrouski received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship.  Anna has been employed in Dining Services for a little over 3-1/4 years and is attending University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she is majoring in Biology as she studies to become a Physician Assistant.  Her parents are Dana and Christopher Petrouski.

Matthew Plys received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Matt has been employed in Dining Services for close to three years and has also been a great help in our Facilities department this summer. Matt attends Indiana University in Bloomington, pursuing a degree in Exercise Science. His parents are Shawn and Rob Plys.

Madison Reeves received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. She has been employed in Dining Services for about two years. Madison recently graduated from Valparaiso High School and will attend Indiana University this fall, majoring in Political Science and International Studies. Her parents are Kim and Brian Reeves.

Sylvia Rotole received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. She began employed with Pines Village in our Dining Services department and is now an aide in Home Health. She has been employed for almost two and a half years in both departments. She attends Purdue University Northwest in Westville, where she is pursuing a degree in Nursing. Her parents are Joanna and John Rotole. 

Ian Hunter Smith received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship.  Ian has been employed in Dining Services for close to 4 years now and attends DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, majoring in Philosophy as he studies to become an attorney. Ian’s parents are Hope and Julien Smith.

Lucy Warner received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Lucy has been employed in Dining Services for four years and attends Purdue University West Lafayette, where she is working towards becoming a Physician. Her parents are Karen and Tim Warner.

 Pines Village would also like to congratulate our 2024 college graduates. Madeline Couri and Taylor Schumann both graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Madeline will be working as an RN on the telemetry floor at Mercy Health-West in Cincinnati, OH. Taylor will be working as a pediatric RN at Ann & Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Madelyn Evans graduated from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, where she received a degree in Secondary Mathematics and a minor in psychology. Lillian Gillins graduated from Florida College in Temple Terrace, Florida, where she received a degree in Business Administration. Ashley Graegin graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, with an English Literature & Education degree. In addition, we congratulate our 2024 high school graduates Gwen Clifford, Natalie Cromer, Sophia Davenport, Parker Gleason, Evan Lazar, Dylan McGuire, Alyssa Peo, Madison Reeves, and Aidan Stout. We are truly happy for each of you and your individual accomplishments!
