As a continued commitment to the Veteran community, Pines Village Retirement Communities will present a screening of the award-winning documentary "Almost Sunrise" at the Auditorium at Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso on Thursday, November 7, 2019. The lobby will open at 5:00 pm for light appetizers, the film will begin at 6:00 pm, and a power breath meditation exercise will follow.
The feature-length film tells the inspiring story of two young men, Tom Voss and Anthony Anderson. In an attempt to put their haunting Iraq combat experiences behind them, these two Vets embark on a 2,700-mile trek on foot across America.
"Almost Sunrise" is the first film to explore "moral injury," the profound shame that many veterans feel when experiences of war violate their moral beliefs. Following the film, a power breath meditation exercise led by Pam Brockman, Illinois Director of Project Welcome Home Troops, will follow. Power Breath Meditation is a mind-body resilience-building program for returning veterans. It offers practical breath-based tools that decrease the stress, anxiety, and sleep problems that many returning veterans experience.
The event is FREE, but registration at AlmostSunriseNWI.eventbrite.com is highly encouraged.
