Martin Sonnenberg Named CEO of Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc.

The board of directors of Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc. is pleased to announce that Martin Sonnenberg has been selected to serve as Chief Executive Officer of the nonprofit retirement community in Valparaiso, Indiana. 

Martin Sonnenberg will take on his new role as Chief Executive Officer at Pines Village effective April 1, 2021.

Board president Shellee Nelson shares, “the board was impressed with Martin’s leadership experience, strong ties with the community, his embracement of Pines Village’s vision and mission, and his drive to meet the needs of the next generation of older adults."

Sonnenberg’s new role is effective April 1, 2021. Sonnenberg replaces acting CEO Denise Schroeder and CEO Emerita Laurie Mullet, whose tenure at Pines Village ran from 1997 – 2021.

Sonnenberg earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Valparaiso University, going on to further his education at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2011 and Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management's Advanced Management Program in 2016.

“I am very excited to be joining the Pines Village community,” Martin Sonnenberg shared. “I look forward to furthering the mission and vision in serving the residents, staff, and families with excellence,” he continued.

Sonnenberg has spent over 15 years of his career serving in senior leadership roles, including CEO, President, and COO at Task Force Tips. In that time, he also gained experience in HR, IT, and strategic planning.

Martin is also very familiar with serving the Valparaiso community. Over the years, he has held board and chair positions at the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, Valparaiso Parks Foundation, Victory Christian Academy, Valparaiso Rotary Foundation, Valparaiso Parks, and Liberty Bible Church. 

"This transition will be a new chapter for Pines Village. Our board of directors is enthusiastically committed to setting the direction of the organization for the next decade. Martin has the opportunity to shape the future of Porter County's only nonprofit retirement community. 

 We look forward to a fresh perspective on elder services and having another CEO with deep roots in the community,” Nelson adds.
