Pines Village Retirement Communities Awards Over $28,000 in Scholarships to Student Employees


Pines Village Retirement Communities, Inc., announces the 2020-2021 recipients of the Margaret M. Rivers and Anne Lauterbach scholarship awards.  The scholarship program was created to foster employee longevity and encourage employees to pursue their higher education goals. Through the generosity of our residents, their families, the Board of Directors and staff, over $288,000 in scholarships have been awarded to undergraduate and graduate student employees of Pines Village since 1996.

  • The Margaret M. Rivers Fund - created in honor of Midge Rivers, founding director of Pines Village Retirement Communities.

  • The Anne Lauterbach Fund - created in honor of the late Anne Lauterbach, an educator, and a Pines Village resident.

Over $28,000 was awarded to the following 14 undergraduate student employees.

Emma Adams received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Emma has been employed in Dining Services for three years and attends Ball State University, where she majors in Visual Communications. Emma’s parents are Jennifer & Joel Adams. 

Iyanla Edwards received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Iyanla has been employed in Home Health for over a year and attends Indiana University Northwest, where she majors in Radiologic Sciences. Iyanla’s parents are Crystal McCafferty and Jeremell Allen.

Karina Evans received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Karina has been employed in Home Health for over a year and attends Indiana University Northwest, where she majors in Nursing. Karina’s parents are Brad and Stanna Evans.

Madelyn Evans received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Madelyn has been employed in Dining Services for nearly two years and will be attending Grand Valley State University, where she plans to major in Secondary Education & Mathematics. Madelyn’s parents are Brad and Stanna Evans. 

Lillian Gillins received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Lillian has been employed in Dining Services for over three years and will be attending Florida College, where she plans to major in Business Management. Lillian’s parents are Kurt and Patty Gillins. 

Mary Johnson received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Mary has been employed in Dining Services for over three years and attends Ball State University, where she majors in Secondary Education (History & Sociology). Mary’s parents are Carla and Jack Johnson.

Ankurpreet Kaur received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Ankurpreet has been employed in Home Health for over a year and attends Purdue University Calumet, where she majors in Biology with a concentration in Health Sciences. Ankurpreet’s parents are Sonia Kaur and Raj Singh.

Haley Kennedy Mathews received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Haley has been employed in Home Health for nearly a year and attends Purdue University Northwest - Westville, where she majors in Nursing. Haley’s parents are Jackie and David Mathews.

Brieana Kraus received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Brieana has been employed in Home Health for two years and attends Valparaiso University, where she majors in Nursing. Brieana is the daughter of Kelly Kraus.

Aleksa Matijevic received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Aleksa has been employed in Dining Services for nearly two years, and will be attending Ball State University, where he plans to major in Sports Administration. Aleksa’s parents are Jelena and Tim Chenoski.

Emily McGuire received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Emily has been employed in Dining Services and Residential Services for over six years, and attends Ball State University, where she majors in History and minors in women’s and gender studies. Emily’s parents are Amy and Rob McGuire.

 Lauren Skadberg received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Lauren has been employed in Dining Services for nearly two years, and will be attending Purdue University, where she plans to major in Medical Laboratory Science. Lauren’s parents are RG and Ann Skadberg.

Mathew Supergan received an Anne Lauterbach scholarship. Matt has been employed in Dining Services, Facilities, and Residential Services for six years, and attends Ball State University where he majors in HR Management. His parents are Michelle and John Supergan.

Alissa Van Zuidam received a Margaret M. Rivers scholarship. Alissa has been employed in Dining Services for four years, and attends Purdue University Northwest, where she majors in Elementary Education. Her parents are Karyn and Mark Van Zuidam.
